Unexpected end of MySql!

I'm on a Win box running XP and need MySQL's 'datadir' at a different location other than the default. When I change 'datadir="C:/PROGRA~1/EASYPH~1.0/mysql/data/"' to 'datadir="F:/My Documents/EasyPHP5.3.0/mysql/data"' at 'C:\Program Files\EasyPHP5.3.0\conf_files\my.ini', I get the error message: "Unexpected end of MySql!". I Googled and found a reference saying to delete the old 'my.cnf' file. I searched and did not find that file on the system. I found another reference saying to run EasyPHP as "Administrator", but that didn't help either. Can the location of the databases be changed?

What is in MySQL log ?

Can you try to run servers as Service ?

Hm-mm, I'm not familiar with how to do that under EasyPHP. The EasyPHP monitor that runs in the MS Taskbar System Tray says that both Apache and MySQL are running though.

Can you access to phpMyAdmin, or not ?

If not, try to run as Service, it is in EasyPHP Options ;)

I can get to phpMyAdmin from 'localhost/home/mysql' . Everything s working fine there. I just need to change the "Path to the database root (datadir) : C:\PROGRA~1\EASYPH~1.0\mysql\data\" to "F:\My Documents\EasyPHP5.3.0\mysql\data" (without generating an error). I did notice there are files being created in the directory I want to use though. They are as follows:

It looks like everything is from a couple of days ago though. I think the phpMyAdmin page has always been working (no problems). The latest thing I've tried is to: (1) Stop Apache and MySQL (2) Copy the entire contents of 'C:\Program Files\EasyPHP5.3.0\mysql\data' to 'F:\My Documents\EasyPHP5.3.0\mysql\data' (3) Change the "datadir" path to the new one in the MySQL config file (using forward slashes in the path) (4) Start MySQL and Apache.

When I did that, I did not get an error. However, when I checked to see if MySQL is writing new databases to the new location, I found it was still writing to the original path (even with that line commented out with '#' in the MySQL config file).

The MySQL config file (my.ini) looks like the following:

#Path to the database root
#datadir="${path}/mysql/data/"
datadir="F:/My Documents/EasyPHP5.3.0/mysql/data/"

I'm sure there's something I'm over looking. I wonder if the config file accepts spaces in the path name. Or, maybe I need to quit/restart EasyPHP itself, to make sure it is actually loading the changes made to the config file.

It looks like that last procedure I did worked after all. I had to actually completely quit out of EasyPHP and then re-launch it. It appears that just doing a stop/start of the servers is not enough after an edit of the 'my.ini' file.
