Apache Port Conflict (Apache2 port (80) is used by "" (System))

Hi there,

I'm experiencing a problem with Apache ports. Both IIS and EasyPHP is installed on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I changed the default Apache listen port to 8080 through configuration file but the port conflict with IIS still exists. I get the following error message on EasyPHP startup:

"Apache2 port (80) is used by "" (System) !"

The weird thing is; Although I define the new listening port as 8080, the error message indicates that apache is trying to use port 80!

How can I eliminate this problem?

I have tried a number of things to resolve a similar problem. At one early point, I had the status window showing active Apache and MySql status. So, I powered down my Dell Vista 64bit system thinking that I could begin my training the next day. However on the next day, I powered up and with no changes the Apache Port Conflict reappeared.

Again after many tests of changes and reviews of windows logs and EasyPHP logs, I looked and found a forum note for a much earlier version of EasyPHP that indicated to just reset the "Port check" in the EasyPHP configuration menu. My next run of EasyPHP did not show the status window but the EasyPHP log seemed to indicate that everything was started OK.

Note that I could see the logging of the MySql processing but the Apache log could not be found. Also note that I have run the uninstall and reinstall process several times since this and the status window still doesn't appear. I am wondering if this is now a registry issue.

I am able to use my "PHP Designer 2007" application to create PHP scrips and edit/debug them but it is to limited to test the run of the actual script. It uses the PHP.exe and Apache/php.ini files for the debug process.

I can see that resolving this problem is going to take me a lot of time unless someone can offer some incite and suggestions.

Here are a few steps that I have taken to allow Windows version of EasyPHP5.3.0 to run with Apache server and MySQL database running. Note that I tried serveral combinations, so this may not be the total list but it should be a good start.
1. Uninstalled and eliminated the corresponding folders for all previous Apache and MySql version loaded before an EasyPHP install was done.
2. Ran Norton 360 to clear inappropriate entries from the windows registry.
3. Set the following check buttons in the EasyPHP configuration window:
a. "Start on windows startup" = no check
b. "Start Apache and MySQL as services (administrator only)" = check
c. "Launch server when this application start" = no check
d. "Check version at startup" = no reset
e. "Automatic consideration of servers's configuration modification" = check
f. "Check server's TCP port before starting" = no check
4. Set ownership and permissions for all executable objects (e.g. EasyPHP, Apache, MySql) to userid for Adminstrators.
5. Used the original .INI file settings for EasyPYP, Apache, MySql, PHP.

The solution is very simple. Just go to EasyPhp on right hand side bottom ( Task bar). Right click on EasyPhp and then click on configuration and then again EasyPhp. Uncheck "Check server's TCP port before starting." Thats all and it will run now.
