easyphp3.0 destroys mysql tables

I keep getting errors in my tables since "downgrading" to 3.0.

mysql gives the message "Incorrect key file for table xxx"
It seems that an update on a table destroys it.
this seems to be a bug with mysql 4 reported by many people.
I've spent three days trying to get my local site to refunction only to find more and more problems.
Is there a fix?
